Ironton (Ohio) Journal - May 29, 1872 - Latest River News Mr. Daniel Crumlish, the chief engineer of the Telegraph, who had been lying ill at his home for some time, died on Saturday night and on Monday morning the Telegraph came down early and took the remains up to Burlington for interment. The corpse was accompanied to the boat by Capt. Honshell and the officers of the Telegraph and the resident stockholders of the Big Sandy Co., and the funeral was attended by a large concourse of friends.Capt. P. S. Davidson Ironton (Ohio) Register - July 11, 1901 - CAPT. P. S. DAVIDSON Word has been received here announcing the death of Capt. Pete S. Davidson at Hood River, Oregon, last Sunday morning. Captain Davidson was born and raised at South Point but went West in his younger days and became a steamboatman and grew to be a millionaire. He leaves two brothers, Capt. Tom Davidson, of South Point, and Jerre Davidson of Portsmouth; also three sisters, Mrs. Shepherd of South Point, Mrs. Nan Brubaker of Sheridan, and Mrs. Theo Ferguson of South Point. Captain Davidson was past 70 years of age, and his name was a familiar one to rivermen. His line of boats embraced a score of the finest that could be built and were all managed successfully. - Catlettsburg Press. Capt. Pres. Devol Ironton (Ohio) Register - Aug. 26, 1858 Capt. Pres. Devol, formerly well known on the Ohio river, as a pilot and steamboat captain, and one time commander of the "Clipper No. 2" in the Pittsburgh and Cincinnati Packet Line, died on the 27th of April last, in Siam Asia, of jungle fever. - He was from the mouth of Big Hocking, and in 1840 was known as a singer of Whig campaign songs. He left this country for China, in 1854, and since then he has been a commissioned official in the Siam Navy, and at one time achieved some "glory" in capturing a fleet of pirates. He left a wife and one child in Lancaster, Ohio. |
