    Marshal Shutes information reads: Judge John Davisson, father of Margaret who married Daniel Brubaker. Judge John Davisson was born in Maryland in 1777, came to Ohio in 1801. He was the first judge of Lawrence County, and served three terms in State Legislature 1821 to 1826. Judge John Davisson married Susanah Lambert, who was born in New Jersey 20 days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence4.

  1. 2.  Nathaniel Davidson was born 16 Jan 1782, Clarksburg, Harrison, West Virginia (son of Amaziah Davidson and Margaret Burns); died 5 Feb 1863, Scioto County, Ohio.

    Notes:

    Nathaniel settled on the land that originally was cleared by Baccus, Baccus had lived there for several years, he had farmed some, hunted some, but was not content, so he moved on down below Pine Creek. Nathaniel was a farmer so this land was perfect for him, he took possession as land owner, and paid considerable attention to an apple orchard, setting the trees on exact row, and trimming them so as to make them sightly, and of even balance. He hunted for a pass-time and was one of the best of marksmen with the rifle; kept a blacksmith shop, with a few blacksmith tools for his own convenience; for sometime acted in the capacity of Associate Judge of the court; was a good neighbor; lost his eyesight; became a member of the Baptist Church, and died a Christian in his 80th year. Nathaniel is buried in Aid Cemetery, Aid, Lawrance, Ohio along with his wife, Elizabeth.

    Notes:

    Amaziah made the first settlement on the lower point of the Storm Creek; on a fraction of some eighteen acres. He eventually sold it to Jacob Suitor, and moved down to the first farm above the French Grant.

  3. 6.  Luke Kelley was born 3 Apr 1757, Shenandoah, Virginia (son of William Kelley and Nancy); died 25 Nov 1821, Union Landing Lawrence Co., Ohio.

    Notes:

    Luke was of Irish descent. In 1796 Luke Kelley and family were among the first settlers in Union Landing. That year also come the Davisson, Dollarhide, Yingling, Ferguson and Gilruth, all whom were farmers. Luke Kelley purchased a mill on the river for grinding corn in 1799, he then proceeded to built a strong pier of timber and stone, behind which the mill was secure from ice. The customers to this mill came from above Big Sandy, on both sides of the river to below Little Sandy. Mr. Kelly then proceeded to manufacture the proceeds of this mill into whicky for the people, and swill for his hogs. Up from the mill, Kelley then built the first meeting house in Lawrence County. It was a round log structure one story high, with a clapboard roof, puncheon floor, split log seats, and about 18 to 20 feet square. It was truly a rough building, but equal to the necessity of the times. His son John, built a horse mill in 1803, a steam mill in 1819 and a steam saw mill in 1830.
