    • Deed Abstracts Indexed Lancaster County Pennsylvania Deed Books A -K 1729-1966 reads:
D-212 - 1-13-1755; 150 A. Little Conestoga ck.; John Stoner (miller) mortgage to John Newcomer, Jacob Brubaker & Christian Hershey (satisfied 1761) (to Stoner for John & Elizabeth Newcomer; Jacob & w. Susannah Brubaker; Christian & w. Maria Hershey)

Jacob received 87 1/4 acres of the original 500 acres purchased by his father (deed Q-2-513 Lancaster) received 74 1/4 acres from Benjamin Hershey (deed Q-2-517) received 62 3/4 acres from his father
Total land received was 224 1/2 acres. Thus it is unsure as to where Jacob and Susanna lived, but they probably erected buildings and lived near Hans' widow and young children. So as to be able to give advice and assistance whenever needed.
Jacob Brubaker died intestate in 1779. Leaving behind two living children, Christian (B. 1757 D. 1823, married Elizabeth Hershey and Veronica) and Mary (B. 1770 D. 1894 married Abraham Brubaker {C-9}, son of John Jacob Brubaker. However settlement of the estate did not take place until 1793, after his daughter, Mary had become of age and was married. A release of 1783 shows that because Jacob had no will, Christian would receive two shares and Mary, one share according to the law at the time of estate settlement.
In this release dated July 3, 1793, Deed Q-2-532, Lancaster, Christian paid Mary 1800 pounds as her share of the estate. On the same date Christian sold to Abraham Brubaker and his sister, Mary 230 acres for 2,2600 pounds Deed Q-2-544, Lancaster. This is where it got Strange. Abraham and Mary sold Isaac Kauffman, a brother in law 115 acres of their land on October 22, 1793, the very next day Isaac Kauffman sold the 115 acres back to Abraham. (The only conclusion I find is that this way the 115 acres was in Abraham's name only rather than Abraham and Mary's to do with it as he saw fit.) Since Abraham and Mary had no son's only daughters this 230 acres of land passed out of the Brubaker family equally with the marriage of the two daughters.

The following are portions taken from what is called Martyrs' Mirror published at Ephrata Pennsylvania in 1748. The first entry reads,:

"In the year of Christ 1749 on May 30 have I, Jacob Brubaker, united in marriage with Christian Steinmans daughter Susanna." This was the year after the death of his father, and Jacob was about twenty eight years of Age.
In total Jacob and Susanna had 5 children:
      1. Daughter born August 30, 1752 - died August 2, 1753
      2. Twins, born September 12, 1753, Girl, unnamed, died September 18, 1753 Age 6days. Son John born Septmeber 12, 1753 died August 4, 1758 age four years, ten months and twenty two days.
      3. Elizabeth born Sept 17. 1755 died January 1, 1756
      4. Christian H. born October 18, 1757
      5. John born July 2, 1760 died March 16, 1761

On July 3, 1760 the day after John, their youngest child was born Susanna died of natural death.

"In the year 1768, May 24, have I, Jacob Brubaker, and Peter Martin's daughter, named Maria, entered into a state of holy matrimony." All other records say that his second wife was Mary Bear; evidently she was a widow but was Peter Martin's daughter.

In the year 1770 there was born to us a daughter May 8. With all my might I pray that God may send his strength to us and the child, and indeed also upon all men through Christ's name. (This must have been Mary the second child to survive)
