    Notes
    • Benjamin Adkins, SR was born about 1770 in Virginia and died in Wayne County in November 1839 and buried in the Barrier Community near Parmleysville where he lived. Benjamin and his wife, Catherine Stigall and his sisters were among the first settlers of Kentucky, making the long journey from North Caroline with on of the Daniel Boone parties. Two of Benjamin's sisters were killed by the Indians on this trek. His name first appears in the land records of Lincoln County, Kentucky in 1798, the in Pulaski County in 1799 and on the 1810 Census of Wayne County. He married Catherine "Katie" Stigall before coming to Kentucky. She was born 1779 in South Carolina and perhaps some of her family came also as there is a Stigall Community in Pulaski County, near the Cumberland River, off Highway 1642. Benjamin and Katies' daughter, Katie Jr. and her husband, Samuel Walden were buried in this area of Pulaski. Catherine Stigall Adkins lived in widowhood with her son Benjamin Jr. in the Parmleysville area of Wayne County until she died in 1862. In 1864, Benjamin Jr. sold out and moved to Iowa. Catherine is buried in the Barrier Community of Wayne County along with her husband, Benjami Sr.

In 1836, Benjamin built a Log Mill on the Little South Fork, made of huge squared logs. It had rifle slits on two levels. This mill is still standing in Wayne County. When Benjamin died in 1839, his estate consisted of 10 or more Negro, large sums of money and debts Owing to him to the amount of $10,000 besides many acres of land, stock, farm instruments, household and kitchen furniture of great value.

Benjamin Sr.'s Last Will and Testament is also included in the book "Washington Young of Wayne County, Kentucky and his Descendants by Asher Leon Young". Also included are court records in which a son-in-law and daughter-in-law attempt to challenge the will. Their spouses had died and they and their children were left out of the will. They claimed that Benjamin was never well and suffered from mental illness as a result of a head injury received during and Indian attack. They lost their case.
