Kentucky native, Ralph Richey, descends from many of the early settlers of Lawrence County, Ohio. He lives in Germany now and is widely known for his piano concerts and musical accomplisments. He teaches piano at the University in Essen, Germany.
This portrait was done from a black and white picture. I really enjoy his music.

Another activity to do while in Frankfort, Ky. is to go on the Murder & Mayhem walk of the old historic district of Frankfort. Russ Hatter (above) not only shows you where a Governor was assassinated, a Senator killed, etc., but relates the history behind the murders and mayhem.
It’s an excellent historical tour that I have been on several times. I highly recommend this walk to all my friends and co-workers. For more information: http://www.frankfortparksandrec.com/html/capital_city_museum.html
PS: This is my 88 year old mother’s favorite painting. Is it the man or the uniform that appeals to her? I am afraid to ask! lol

Capital City Museum Frankfort KY
The Capital City Museum is a must see when touring through Frankfort. It houses a lot of the town’s history and memorabilia.
I painted this as a gift. Russ Hatter, local historian, and employee at the Museum has been very helpful to me in all of my local research.

Kentucky State Penitentiary, Frankfort, Ky. 1800-1937
This was the first prison built West of the Allegheny Mountains. The flood of 1937 discontinued it’s use. It was renamed the Kentucky State Reformatory around 1910-1911. I have done extensive research on all of Kentucky’s prisons. If you would like to share information about it’s history, please contact me through the blog comment.
This painting is in my private collection.
