This was a parting gift to our Commissioner upon his retirement.  It’s probably a good thing that I gave it to him as he was leaving because he might have fired me if he had seen it beforehand.  lol  He was a great person to work for and with.  His love of history, and his encouragement, inspired me to do research on the history of Kentucky’s prisons.  Thanks Commissioner Rees.

Kentucky native, Ralph Richey, descends from many of the early settlers of Lawrence County, Ohio.  He lives in Germany now and is widely known for his piano concerts and musical accomplisments.  He teaches piano at the University in Essen, Germany.

This portrait was done from a black and white picture.     I really enjoy his music.

This fine young man is Mason.  He is a brother to Morgan, pictured below.   I forgot to take a camera shot after I did his portrait.  This is a zerox copy of the painting scanned into my computer.  I’m sorry Mason that this picture did not scan too well.  I promise to paint you a better picture soon.

Murder & Mayhem Tour Guide

Another activity to do while in Frankfort, Ky. is to go on the Murder & Mayhem walk of the old historic district of Frankfort.  Russ Hatter (above) not only shows you where a Governor was assassinated, a Senator killed, etc., but relates the history behind the murders and mayhem.

It’s an excellent historical tour that I have been on several times.  I highly recommend this walk to all my friends and co-workers.  For more information:  http://www.frankfortparksandrec.com/html/capital_city_museum.html

PS:  This is my 88 year old mother’s favorite painting.  Is it the man or the uniform that appeals to her?  I am afraid to ask!  lol
